About

Clownette is dopamine dressing in a pastel paradise!

Clownette is a slow fashion brand. We are committed to ethical manufacture using high quality fabrics and original prints.

All prints are original creations, hand drawn by me! @blackmarketboo.

I'm quite a nostalgic designer. I'm inspired by the 80s and 90s, vaporwave, retro anime, childhood holidays in the tropics, and rainbow colours.

Our Sizing

We are working to expand our size offering.

Currently we stock sizes S-XL, plus two One Size gradings:

Easy Fit is designed to flatter sizes AUS 10-14. These styles are designed to be worn with an over-size aesthetic in mind. Dresses are generous and flowing, while shirts can be worn open, fastened or layered.

Free Size is designed to flatter sizes AUS 16-18. Free Size is also enjoyed by sizes under 18 for a more generous and flowing look.

Our Fabrics

Cotton Poplin is made from natural fibres so it is soft and breathable. It is crisp enough to create a tailored look while being comfortable and pliant. Our cotton garments benefit from an iron every now and then.

Flax is a natural fibre which gives us linen. Its distinctive texture creates an elevated, luxury feel. Our flax benefits from an occasional iron.

Rayon Moss is made from a blend of natural and synthetic fibres. It is known for its elegant drape and buttery texture. Our rayon moss benefits from an iron after washing to retain its shape & keep it wrinkle-free. It also responds well to steaming.

Our Ethics

Clownette garments are designed by me and are digitally printed and manufactured in Jaipur, India, a city known for its artistic heritage and handblock tradition. Our manufacturer is a Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) audited business.

Our manufacturer is a female-led, family owned business with whom I have worked for 15 years. I visit the manufacturing site at least twice a year to collaborate with the design team on prints and sampling. The owner is herself an artist and a passionate proponent of Indian traditional crafts and culture. She is especially focused on employing highly skilled artisans (karegars) to bring quality prints and embroidery to her product, and runs an internship program for design graduates.

Employees receive a living wage and enjoy health benefits, over-time pay and time off for Rajasthan’s rich cultural life of frequent festivals, weddings, and holidays. The site is solar powered and adheres to all safety measures

Our Sustainability

Sustainability and exploring eco-conscious options is part of our business model. Our garments are digitally printed and are manufactured in small quantities. They are re-stocked on a needs basis. Our clothing is manufactured at a site that uses solar power. In our choice of fabrics, there is a focus on natural fibres and we use up all our fabric by making zero waste scrunchies and totes. No polyester is used. Instead of plastic, shell buttons are used, and at our market appearances we use cloth totes instead of plastic bags.
